Rapid Growth of Crops. The reports of correspondents of (e Weekly Crop Bulletin issued by 10 North Carolina Climate and Crop arvice, for the week ending Satur- jy, May 30th, 1896, are on the whole Ivofable, and indicate, except where rought still prevails, a rapid growth f crops. The temperature was bove the normal every day except he 24th, though Friday and Sat urday were also agreeably cool. The rain-fall was unevenly dis- iributed, the north-east portion of the State receiving too much, the west too little. There was generally sufficient sunshine. Cotton and corn especially arc in splendid condition; tobacco is doing fairly well. The wheat harvest has just commenced. Farmers are beginning to lay by corn in the south portion of the State. Central District.—In general the past week has been very favorable. The weather war warm, except Fri day and Saturday, which were agreeably cool, with plenty of sun shine to make crops grow well. Rain enough has fallen at most places, , and where it is least, it has been I sufficient for such crops as can I be worked; there are some few F reports of heavy rains washing lands. Cutting wheat has just begun on a limited scale; chinch bugs are numerous at some places. Some correspondents report that oats are coming out considerably j since the rains. There is still some tobacco to be transplanted; the crop ; looks exceeding well. Cotten is now I getting grassy; generally good stand and vigorous; chopping continues in north portion. Corn is quite large for the season, and commencing to be laid by in the south. Blackber ries are beginning to get ripe in the south portion of the district. Growth of grass in crops requires active at tention of farmers. Music Comes From a Coffin. James Mulligan, an employee of a Michigan logging camp, died in the woods a couple of days ago. His friends placed his body and all his belongings in a coffin to ship to his family. They decided to carry the coffin to the railroad station. Eight stalwart woodsmen undertook the task of carrying it a mile over the the frozen mud roads. They had not gone far when they suddenly stopped. Every one of them turned pale with fear, and they nearly dropped their burden. From within the coffin they heard the strains of ^After the Ball" in the piping tones peculiar to a music box. Then some one remembered the box which James brought to help shorten the long nights, was packed in the cof fin, and it is supposed the jarring caused the springs to relax. The men were reassured and proceeded on their way. Commencement Exercises of the Univer sity of North Carolina. In addition to the dates already advertised the Southern Railway Company will sell round-trip tickets to Chapel Hill on June 4th at $1.80 for the round trip. “ THE TRIUMPH OF LOVE IS HAPPY, FRUITFUL MARRIAGE.” Every Man Who Would Know the Grand Truths, the Plain Facts, the New Discoveries of Medical Science as Applied to Married Life, Who Would Atone for Past Errors and Avoid Future Pitfalls, Should Secure the Wonderful Little Book Called “Complete Manhood, and How to At tain It.” “ Here at last is information from a high medical source that must work wonders with this generation of men.” The book fully describes a method by which to attain full vigor and manly power. I wanted to hug everybody and tell them my old self had died yesterday, and my new self was born to-day. Why didn’t you toll me when I first wrote that I would find it this way?” And another thus: “If you dumped a cart load of gold at my feet it would not bring such gladness into my life as your method has done.” Write to the ERTE MEDICAL COMPANY, Buffalo, N. Y., and ask for the little book called ^COMPLETE MANHOOD.” Refer to this paper, and the company promises to send the book, hi sealed envelope, without any marks, and entirely free, until it is well intro duced.
